Scripts Medical Pharmacy is located on the second floor of the Canadian Cancer Care building. Pharmacy services are now available to clinic patients as well as the general public. Come by and meet Pierre Danis, Scripts’ pharmacist. In the meantime, we asked Pierre some questions about himself and this new venture:

Q: What services does Scripts provide and to whom?

A: Scripts Medical Pharmacy offers a comprehensive list of clinical services for all patients. This includes: medication reviews, smoking cessation, initial access prescribing, meter training, travel consults, vaccination reviews, blister packaging, injection services as well as regular prescription services.

Q: Is there anything that makes Scripts unique?

A:  The biggest thing that makes Scripts Medical unique is our focus on our patients’ clinical needs. We are here to be more than a place to pick up your medications, we want to be an integral part or your health care team providing education, monitoring your medications and helping to optimize your health outcomes. We also offer prescription delivery to your home!

Q: What is the relationship between Scripts and Canadian Cancer Care?

A: We have a close working relationship with Canadian Cancer Care and all the physicians on site. Our goal is to complement and support both the physician and the patient in order to allow the patient to achieve their health goals.

Q: What is your role with Scripts?

A: I am the pharmacy manager, physician liaison, travel and vaccine consultant.

Q: Where were you working before this?

A: Safeway Pharmacy for about 14 years as a manager of various locations (Meadowlark for about two years and Bonnie Doon for about 12 years). I also served in various other capacities for the company as well including head injection trainer, developed the travel program for western Canada and teaching at the University of Alberta.

Q: How do you feel about this new pharmacy/venture?

A: Very excited. I see it as an opportunity to be able to showcase what pharmacy and pharmacy services can offer to help improve patient care.

Q: What made you want to become a pharmacist?

A:  I always had a strong interest in science and I always liked talking/dealing with people (growing up, I have always been in retail jobs of one sort or another). Pharmacy just seemed like the perfect choice to meld both of these.

Q: What are three interesting facts about you?

A: (1) I have three boys all under the age of 12! (2) I’m a passionate hockey fan. Though I, unfortunately, cheer for the Oilers, so not much to be passionate about recently. (3) I’m an avid reader.
